New polyamide (I) contg. medium to long-chain alkyl gps. is of the formula: -(N(A) X N(B) CO Y CO)n (I); (where Y = a divalent gp.; X = a divalent gp. with at least 2C atoms in the chain; A and B independently = H or 1-26C alkyl; n = over 4). (I) contains at least o ne 6-26, esp. 14-20C alkyl gp./recurring unit. The novelty is that X and/or Y contain at least one CH2 gp. in the chain.
