NEW MATERIAL:The DNA fragment having a base sequence of formula I and containing a beta-galactosidase-producing gene originated from Lactobacillus bulgaricus. USE:Production of beta-galactosidase originated from Lactobacillus bulgaricus. PREPARATION:The chromosome of Lactobacillus bulgaricus SBT0034 strain (FERM P-10081) which is a lactobacillus capable of producing beta-galactosidase is treated with a restriction enzyme to separate a DNA fragment containing a beta-galactosidase-producing gene.
