PURPOSE:To index a main spindle without causing any necessity for additionally providing a control shaft, which controls a rotary angle of the spindle, by providing an indexing plate having grooves divided at an equal distance on the peripheral position of the spindle and indexing the spindle by inserting a rotary knob provided on a tool rest into the divided groove, in the case of a spindle index controller of a machine tool. CONSTITUTION:A workpiece held by a main spindle is subjected to turning work by a rotary tool 15 and turning tool 14 on the first feed slide bed A. Next, if a Z-axis slide 9 of the second feed slide bed B advances along a rotary shaft line of the spindle to a position, where a rotary knob 18 of a control member 17 is enaged with the divided groove on an indexing plate on the spindle, the Z-axis slide 9 stops. Thereafter, an X-axis slide 10 of the second feed slide bed B advances the workpiece by the distance corresponding to the amount of travel required for machining a prescribed long hole toward the rotary shaft line of the spindle. Thus the spindle is able to give the workpiece a necessary rotary feed and further index the workpiece. |
