PURPOSE:To make a nonimpact printer simpler and higher in speed by supplying electroviscous liq. to an electrostatic recording medium formed thereon with latent images to make the liq. in the nonlatent image parts higher in viscosity, and transferrinf the low viscosity liq. in the latent image parts onto an image receiving sheet. CONSTITUTION:After the surface of a dielectric recording medium 3 provided with a dielectric layer 2 having uniformly fine ruggedness on a conductive substrate 1 is charged electrostatically with a corona charger 4, voltage of a reversed polarity is applied like images thereon by means of a pin electrodes 5, whereby noncharged latent images 6 are formed. Electroviscous liq. 8 is supplied on the surface of the medium 3 by using an applicator roll 7, whereby the latent images are developed. Since the liq. increases its viscosity when applied with the electric field, the latent image parts 6 remain intact but the nonlatent image parts 6' have higher viscosity and consequently the liq. images are formed on the parts 6. If an image receiving sheet 9 is brought into tight contact with the medium 3, the parts 6 transfer and stick easily thereon but the liq. in the parts 6' does nt stick thereto and remains on the surface of the medium 3. As a result, the transferred images are obtained. |
