PURPOSE:To produce the org. compd. thin film having an excellent orientational property and utilizable for an optical element, etc., by using a substrate with a thin film made of an amorphous org. compd. contg. a polymeric material and provided with geometrical ruggedness formed on at least one side. CONSTITUTION:Fine geometrical streaks are previously formed on the surface of an org. compd. material as the substrate, and then an org. compd. thin film is formed thereon by vacuum deposition. For example, a polyimide thin film is formed on a silicon sheet by spin coating and calcined, the surface is lapped to form geometrical ruggednesses, and a substrate 1 is obtained. The substrate 1 is fixed to a substrate holder 2, and a reagent of 2-methyl-4-nitroaniline (MNA) is charged into a crucible 5. A glass bell jar 10 is then evacuated from a exhaust port 12. The crucible 5 is heated in the vacuum to sublime the MNA, and the sublimate is deposited on the substrate 1 to form a thin film. The org. molecule or crystal is highly orientated in this way, and a thin-film org. compd. material utilizable for a nonlinear optical element, etc., is obtained. |
