PURPOSE:To facilitate the shift operation by engaging en engagement body with the desired position of a detent plate through the axial move operation of a grip and the rotary operation of a shift lever while this grip is being held. CONSTITUTION:A shift lever 8 is supported on the upper end of a shift rod 4 that is juxtaposed in a steering column 1 and the manual valve (not illustrated) of an automatic transmission is switched and controlled via a detent mechanism 17 through the rotary operation of a lever 8. This detent mechanism 17 consists of a detent plate 18 on which two or more engagement notches 19 are formed corresponding to each switching position R, P, N, D, or L of the manual valve and an engagement body 21 provided on the basic end of the shift lever 8 that is engaged with a plate 18. Then, the engagement body 21 moves a cylindrical grip 11 in the A direction while pressing the end member 12 in the grip 11. As a result, the engagement body is set to the engaged position through a connection cable 29 and can rotate the shift lever 8. |
