A vaccine is prepared by incubating a suspension of peptidoglycan containing bacteria with Lysostaphin for a period of time sufficient to digest a substantial proportion of the bacterial cells, subjecting the treated material to mechanical, for example ultrasonic, disruption, separating the resulting material, preferably by centrifugation into a solid phase containing any live or killed bacterial cells and a supernatant liquid phase containing bacterial antigens and collecting the vaccine prepared. |
