A PROCESS FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF HYDROCINNAMIC ACID DERIVATIVES

Hydrocinnamic acid derivatives of the formula I wherein one or two of the symbols R1 to R4 are halogen or methoxy and the others are hydrogen; R5 is hydrogen or phenyl; R6 is a residue of the formula R7 is (C1-C4)-alkyl, (C2-C5)-alkanoylamino-(C2-C5)-alkyl, amino or (C1-C4)-alkoxyphenyl; R8 and R9 each, independently, are hydrogen or (C1-C4)-alkyl; R10 is hydrogen and R11 is hydroxy or R10 and R11 taken together are oxo; R12 is hydrogen, (C1-C10)-alkyl, pyridylmethyl or carbamoylmethyl; R13 is hydrogen, (C1-C4)-alkyl and R14 is hydrogen, (C1-C4)-alkyl, pyridyl, phenyl-(C1-C4)-alkyl, carboxy-(C1-C4)-alkyl, carbamoyl-(C1-C4)-alkyl, (C1-C4)-alkoxy carbonyl-(C1-C4)-alkyl, di-(C1-C4)-alkoxy carbonyl-C2-C5)-alky, piperidino-C2-C4)-alkyl or halopyridinecarboxamido-(C2-C4)-alkyl or R13 and R14 taken together with the nitrogen atom are 4-(C1-C4)-alkyl-piperazin-1-yl, as well as pharmaceutically acceptable salts of basic compounds of formula I with acids or of acidic compounds of formula I with bases are described. The compounds of formula I and their pharmaceutically acceptable salts are suitable for the control or prevention of cerebral insufficiency or for the improvement of cognitive functions.
