PURPOSE:To obtain a sizing agent, consisting of a benzenesulfonic acid derivative and capable of improving wettability and impregnating properties with a matrix resin, especially a heat-resistant resin such as polyphenylene sulfide by treating reinforcing fiber therewith and exhibiting excellent adhesion. CONSTITUTION:A sizing agent, obtained by converting a benzenesulfonic acid derivative expressed by formula I (R is H or lower alkyl) or formula II [A is H or formula III (X is OH or halogen); B is X or formula IV: n is >=1] (e.g. dibenzenesulfonic acid diphenylsulfone) into, e.g. an aqueous emulsion, and capable of improving wettability and impregnating properties with matrix resins by application thereof (in an amount of 0.1 to 10wt.% expressed in terms of solids) to reinforcing fiber, such as carbon or glass fiber, and further adhesion without impairing flexibility of the reinforcing fiber. |
