PURPOSE:To keep an air bag always at a specified position by constructing a steering device so that a steering shaft is divided into two upper and lower parts and the position of the connected part of the upper and lower shaft parts can be adjusted upwards and downwards, to enable the steering wheel to oscillate at a specified height position. CONSTITUTION:A steering shaft 1 is divided into upper and lower parts at a position a little higher than the axial middle part of the steering shaft, and the lower end of a lower shaft 2 is supported so that it can be swung upwards and downwards by mean of a fixed pivot 6. Also, the upper end of an upper shaft 3 is supported so that it can be swung upwards and downwards by means of a fixed pivot 10 free to move along a slot 12 formed in a steering bracket 11. The swinging ends of the shafts 2 and 3 are connected to each other by means of a universal joint 13, and the connected part is supported so that its position can be adjusted upwards and downwards by means of a position adjusting means 14. The position adjusting means 14 is so constructed that the shafts 2 and 3 can be swung in one unit about the pivots 6 and 10, respectively, by moving a shaft body 16 upward sand downwards. |
