ELECTRON TUBE CATHODE AND METHOD OF THE SAME

A cathode for an electron tube is mfd. by (a) heat treating a scandium oxide powder in an oxidizing temp. at 800-1000 deg.C for more than 30 mins., (b) forming a suspension of it in an organic solvent contg. an alkaline earth metal carbonate powder and binder, (c) applying suspension to a nickel-contg. base as major element with a reducing agent to form an electron-emissive layer, and (d) heating base. The scandium oxide powder is mixed in amt. 0.1-20 wt.% w.r.t. carbonate powder. The binder comprises nitrocellulose dissolved in butyl acetate. The solvent comprises butyl acetate and/or alcohol. Reducing agent comprises silicon and/or magnesium.
