The invention relates to an electron gun for cathode-ray tubes and relates in particular to focusing means which enable the resolution of the tube to be improved. The electron gun CE comprises a cathode 2 emitting electrons intended to form a beam F, a control electrode W, an electrode for first acceleration A1 and means 15 for forming a prefocusing electrode. According to one characteristic of the invention, the electron gun furthermore includes second means A1, E1 for generating a region Z in which the electrostatic field is weak or even absent along an axis X of the beam F, this region being situated between the electrode of first acceleration A1 and the prefocusing lens PF1. The invention finds a particularly advantageous application in the context of high current-density cathode-ray tubes. <IMAGE>
