PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency of the operations for preparing a rolling of strip and taking out a product coil by reversing work rolls at every pass for rolling the strip while applying a heavy tension to the metallic strip by the expanding and contracting mandrels located at the sleeve-inserting sides of the front and back of a rolling mill. CONSTITUTION:Winding and unwinding machines 22, 23 are arranged at the front and the back of a mill 1. The machines 22, 23 are respectively provided with plural expanding and contracting mandrels 19, 20 having each an expanding and contracting coil-winging part, and a sleeve 40 is fitted and fixed to at least one mandrel 19. Then, a metallic strip 9 is rolled between the work rolls of mill 1 by reversing the work rolls at ever pass and alternately winding and unwinding the strip 9 by the mandrels 19 located each at the inserting side of a sleeve 40. The strip 9 is thereafter wound and unwound by either of the mandrels 19, 20. |
