High energy laser power conductor failure optical detector

An optical conductor (16) carrying laser power and an integrity checking optical conductor (26) are contained in a tube (30) so that the leakage of laser energy from the laser power conductor causes failure of the integrity checking conductor. A detector device senses failure of the integrity checking conductor, thus detecting the failure of the laser power conductor. The detector device transmits an integrity signal via the detector conductor to a light sensitive diode.
