WS6049-B SUBSTANCE, ITS PRODUCTION AND CARCINOSTATIC AGENT CONTAINING THE SUBSTANCE AS ACTIVE COMPONENT

PURPOSE:To obtain WS6049-B substance having antibacterial activity against pathogenic substances and antitumor activity by culturing a microbial strain belonging to genus Actinomadura and capable of forming WS6049-B substance in a prescribed medium to produce the WS6049-B substance. CONSTITUTION:A microbial strain belonging to genus Actinomadura and capable of producing WS6049-B substance (e.g. Actinomadura pulveraceus sp. nov. No.6049) is cultured under aerobic condition in a nutrient medium containing available carbon source and nitrogen. The objective WS6049-B substance is separated from the cultured product. The WS6049-B substance exhibits antibacterial activity against various pathogenic microorganisms and has antitumor activity. Accordingly, a carcinostatic agent can be prepared by compounding an active amount of the WS6049-B substance.
