The private car has a partly gas-permeable air bag, inflated in the event of an accident. An opening is provided for discharge of the air bag gas from the passenger space. An existing air-venting system is opened to discharge the gas, typically a window or sliding roof, while a fresh-air fan is switched on at the same time. ADVANTAGE - No damage to parts of vehicle in the process.
