PURPOSE:To obtain sintered ''Permalloy'' parts having superior magnetic characteristics by substituting prescribed percentages of nickel carbonyl and iron carbonyl for part of powder of a Permalloy PB alloy as a starting material when sintered parts are manufactured by powder metallurgical processing using the starting material. CONSTITUTION:Powder of a Permalloy PB alloy (Fe-45-50wt% Ni) is molded to a necessary shape under >=5t/cm<2> pressure and sintered at 1,100 deg.C in a vacuum furnace or a furnace filled with a reducing gas. At this time, nickel carbonyl powder and iron carbonyl powder are substituted for 5-15wt% of the alloy powder as a strting material. For example, in case of an Fe-45Ni alloy, 4.5% nickel carbonyl powder and 5.5% iron carbonyl powder are added to 90% atomized powder of the alloy, and sintering is accelerated by the action of the carbonyl powders. Sintered Permalloy with high magnetic permeability can be obtd.
