<p>PURPOSE:To obtain an atmospheric composition suitable for stored fruits by suppressing fluctuation in oxygen concentration using a gas separation membrane, simultaneously and optionally regulating the gaseous carbon dioxide concentration to a prescribed value with active carbon. CONSTITUTION:Compressed air is treated with a gas separation membrane and the resultant nitrogen-enriched air is then fed to a controlled atmosphere(CA) storing chamber to reduce the oxygen concentration. If the gaseous carbon dioxide is increased by respiratory action of stored fruits, air in the chamber is led to the outside with a circulating blower and fed to an adsorption vessel filled with active carbon to remove the gaseous carbon dioxide. The obtained gas is further returned to the storing chamber. The air is circulated until the gaseous carbon dioxide concentration attains a prescribed value or below. The operation to replace the air with the nitrogen-enriched air or adsorb the gaseous carbon dioxide is continuously or intermittently performed to always carry out maintenance and control under the optimum conditions according to the stored fruits.</p> |
