MANUFACTURE OF NICKEL/ALUMINA CATALYST

PURPOSE: To obtain a catalyst having high hydrogenation activity to glyceride fats and oils and high selectivity by reacting a deposited nickel compd. and aluminum compd. in a reaction vessel under strong stirring. CONSTITUTION: The insoluble nickel compd. is first deposited from an aq. soln. of a nickel salt by an excess alkaline precipitating agent. The deposit is then reacted with the soluble aluminum compd. in the reaction vessel where the liquid is strongly stirred by using energy input of 5 to 2,000 watts or preferably 10 to 100 watts per liter of the liquid. The resulted deposit is matured as desired and is then subjected to drying and reducing after recovery. The thus resulted catalyst has the high hydrogenation activity to the glyceride fats and oils and the high selectivity.
