<p>A device for thermal marking of the surface of a band of mineral wool containing a bonding agent consists of a cylinder mounted in rotation in a chassis which is movable in height, the cylinder carrying on its periphery at least one marking element, electrically heated for preference, a marking element (4) carrying a printing plate (7) whose characters (18) in the form of letters, numbers, signs, images etc. stand, for preference, at least 5 mm above the surface of the printing plate (7), the envelope of the characters being at least approximately coincident with that of a straight cylinder whose axis should coincide with the axis of the cylinder (1).
