In the prepn. of human kallikrein (I), (1) human cells capable of producing (I) are transplanted to a non-human, warmblooded animal and allowed to multiply. The cells are then allowed to liberate (I), or (2) human cells capable of producing (I) are placed in an appts. that supplies them with a nutritive medium from a non-human, warm-blooded animal and this is placed in or on the animal and allowed to multiply. The cells are then allowed to liberated (I). (I) is useful in the treatment of cerebral or cardia arteriosclerosis and hypertension. The process is cheaper to run on an industrial scale, and gives much greater yields, than conventional ways of preparing (I).
