In a lock, the lock-cylinder driver (8) of which drives a pinion (3) which is designed as a slotted ring and which is part of a gear (4) for driving a bolt (15) and/or at least one locking member (10), if a lock cylinder is used in the cover and preferably also the bottom (27) of the lock case (1) there is formed a punched-out portion which allows the lock cylinder (2) to be displaced in the lock case (1) after insertion in the direction of its longitudinal centre axis. After the fastening screw (20) has been screwed into the thread (34) of the flat housing part of the lock cylinder (2), the latter is held fixedly in terms of displacement. In addition, a cross pin or similar element (35) can be provided in the lock case (1) for protection and also for making it easier to fit the fastening screw (20). This avoids a weakening of the pinion (3), undesirable for reasons of strength, even in respect of a lock cylinder having a thicker circular-cylindrical housing part (18). <IMAGE>
