PURPOSE:To obtain an aluminous sintered body having superior wear resistance by grinding the surface of an aluminous sintered body contg. a prescribed amt. of ZrO2 present mainly as tetragonal ZrO2 and/or cubic ZrO2 so that the compressive stress is regulated to a specified value or above. CONSTITUTION:An aluminous sintered body contg. 1-40wt.% ZrO2 including >=50mol% tetragonal ZrO2 and/or cubic ZrO2 is produced and the surface of the sintered body is ground so that the compressive stress measured with X-rays is regulated to >=15kg/mm<2>. An aluminous sintered body having superior wear resistance and suitable for use as a cutting tool, a mechanical seal, etc., requiring high wear resistance can simply be produced at a low cost. |
