PURPOSE:To improve the discharge voltage of a battery by using as active material for a positive electrode electrolytic manganese dioxide which is obtained by performing electrolysis in an electrolytic bath containing manganese sulfate, sulfuric acid and acid of higher relative viscosity than sulfuric acid or its salt. CONSTITUTION:In case that electrolytic manganese dioxide is prepared for which manganese sulfate and sulfuric acid solution is used as electrolyte, acid of higher relative viscosity than sulfuric acid or its salt is added into the electrolyte to perform electrolysis. When manganese dioxide is electrically broken away, ion or the like resulting from acid of higher relative viscosity than sulfuric acid or its salt is adsorbed to the manganese dioxide to create electrolytic manganese dioxide. Since this manganese dioxide has small grains and a large specific surface, it is fittable for a battery. It is thus possible to improve the discharge voltage of a battery in which the manganese dioxide is used as active material for a positive electrode. |
