A pipe connecting piece (2) has a pipe connecting stub (4) which can be inserted into the pipe end (1) to be connected and has a depression (11). By means of a clamping device (12) which can be pushed onto the pipe end (1), a zone at the pipe end (1) can be compressed to form a bead (15) which engages in the depression (11). A stop (21) on the pipe connecting stub (4) is used to position the clamping device (12) in the position required for this purpose. Since the stop (21) is detachable and the pipe connecting stub (4) has a part (b) on that side facing away from the stop surface, which part (b) can be inserted into the pipe end (1) before the stop (21) is fitted and when the clamping device (12) is relieved of stress, the result is that the pipe connecting stub can be temporarily pushed so far into the pipe end (1) during assembly of the connection that said pipe end just has to be pivoted but not axially displaced for connection to a stationary point (3). An equivalent situation applies to pipe joining pieces which have such a pipe connecting piece (4) and clamping device (12) for each pipe end. Such a pipe joining piece having two aligned pipe connecting stubs can be used as a repair coupling for replacing a damaged pipe piece which is cut out of a pipeline. <IMAGE>
