The original to be illuminated is placed in the space (11) between a glass plate (8) and the opaque cover (9) of the copier framework. The space is evacuated via a suction pipe (10) to bring the original into close contact with the glass plate. Below the plate on the base of the housing (5) a number of prism shaped reflectors (13) is interspaced with a number of ultra-violet fluorescent tubular lamps (3).
