A device for dental hygiene, basically a toothbrush, has an electron flow generating system for creating ions inside the mouth. The electron flow consists of photoelectrons, produced by a photoelectrically acting semiconductor and so arranged that, when in use, external illumination is provided and contact with the liquid inside the mouth cavity is obtd. Pref. the semiconductor is of the n- type. In particular, the semiconductor may be of titanium oxide, produced by heating elementary titanium to 1200-1500 deg.C and annealing it for 2-5 minutes at this temp. The devices is useful as a toothbrush with special promotion of dental hygiene. The pH value inside the mouth is raised, improving the ease with which scale can be removed.
