A heat-treated, viral-inactivated platelet membrane microparticle fraction i s provided. The micropartictes may be prepared from outdated platelets. The microparticle fraction is substantially free of alloantigens and GP IIb/IIIa complexes and may be used as a pharmaceutical preparation in transfusions.
