PURPOSE:To improve detection precision by a method wherein the rotation angle of a handle is detected based on a steering signal by means of which the rotation position of the handle is detected, a steering angle for detecting the rotation position of a part to be detected to which rotation of the handle is transmitted at a different period, and given memory characteristics. CONSTITUTION:A handle steering angle detecting mechanism 8 for detecting the rotation angle of a steering shaft 7 rotated by a handle mounted to an upper end is provided with first and second part to be detected formed with first and second magnetic members 81, 82; 85, 86 and first and second holding members 83 and 87 for holding the magnetic members, and first and second detecting parts 84 and 88 for detecting lines of magnetic force from the parts to be detected, and the two detecting parts 84 and 88 are contained in a common housing 89. The second holding member 87 is formed in a manner to have size larger than that of the first holding member 83, and rotated in a decelerated state through engagement of an internal tooth 873 with an external tooth 71. Based on outputs from the two detecting parts 84 and 88 and the characteristics of steering angle signals from the two detecting parts 84 and 88 stored in a memory means, the rotation angle of the handle is detected. |
