PURPOSE:To form a high heat-resistant roll reduced in reactivity with iron and iron oxides, by specifying the shot content of silica alumina fiber and the kind of inorganic binder among the components constituting the high heat- resistant roll. CONSTITUTION:A starting material consisting of silica-alumina fiber, inorganic binder, and organic binder is compacted to >=0.5g/cm<3> bulk density to be formed into an annular sheet-like material 2. Then a metallic pipe 1 is fitted into the above materials 2, and they are fastened together with metallic washers 3 and nuts 4 so as to be formed into a roll shape. At this time, the shot content of silica alumina fiber is regulated to <=30%, and, as the inorganic binder, 1 or >=2 kinds among SiO2, Al2O3, and MgO are used so as to be allowed to react with cristobalite coming from the silica.alumina fiber during the use of the roll to undergo crystal stabilization. In this way, a high heat-resistant roll extremely superior in quality can be obtained.
