The invention relates to a container with a removable lid, making it possible to conserve the leftover contents of a tin of preserves without emptying this tin. The container comprises a cylindrical body 4 and a lid 2 to be screwed on to the upper opening of the body. The body 4 is arranged to contain a standard preserving tin 10 with a slight clearance. The lower face of the lid 2 has a frustaconical pressure or contact surface 18 which is applied in a sealed manner against the upper edge 12 of the preserving tin. If there is no tin in the container, this surface 18 is applied against the upper edge 6 of the body of the container. The lid 2 is arranged to act as a bowl. Such a container can be used for conserving foodstuffs, particularly food for animals. <IMAGE>
