Device modifying the winder 5 of seat belts 1 for the purpose of eliminating the constriction of the chest which they bring about. This device, which is the size of a box of matches, consists of a ring 6 placed over the toothed wheel 3. On this ring, a lever bar 7 pushed by a coil spring 9 exerts permanent braking. This force is adjustable by means of a screw 10 which moves the fulcrum 8. To eliminate this braking when putting the belt on or rewinding it, a mechanical force from the foot suffices on a round-headed rod 13, or on the same round-headed rod which has become a switch if it actuates a small motor 15 which acts on the lever 12 and counterbalances the force of the coil spring 9. <IMAGE>
