PURPOSE:To surely detect an operator and to detect the direction of movement of the operator by deciding the existence of the operator at the time when measured results are within a prescribed range. CONSTITUTION:The existence of an operator 5 is decided when the distance measured result is shorter than a prescribed value of about 50cm; but for the purpose of distinguishing the operator 5 from other persons, who don's use a copying machine but only pass in front of the machine 1, the existence of the operator 5 is decided when he or she exists within the prescribed distance for a prescribed time. Driving of light throwing LED 11 is limited to prescribed intervals, and the detection current is operated only at the time of driving to obtain distance data. Distance information of the background is stored in accordance with set conditions of the machine to detect the operator more surely, and the operator can be detected even when he or she is too close to the machine. |
