Stop valve for supplementing an emergency brake valve of a rail vehicle with airbrake, especially a lever emergency brake valve, the shut-off valve being inserted between the main line of the airbrake system and the emergency brake valve. So that the driver of the vehicle can decide, when operating the emergency brake valve, whether to stop the vehicle or to continue, the shut-off valve has a differential lock piston, controlled by the pressure of the working medium and by the open or closed condition of the emergency brake valve, which piston is pressed in the direction of the closed position by means of an elastic element and is provided with a nozzle bore and with passage openings and with a sealing surface seated on a valve seat. The differential lock piston is guided in a housing and in a cover and the pressure chamber of the housing and the pressure chamber of the cover are both separated by sealing rings from the spring chamber of the housing constantly connected to the outside air.
