The construction of a golf green (2) involves excavation of the natural ground (3) down to formation level (5). A layer of gravel (6) is spread on the formationm (5) followed by a filter layer of sand (7), and on top of that is the rooting layer (9) incorporating sand of 0-2 mm gauge. Finally the putting surface (12) is formed with turf cut to plus or minus 7 mm. Drainage trenches (13) are dug in the formation (5) and drain pipes (14) are laid in them. Surrounding the green (2) is an apron of stronger wearing quality. USE/ADVANTAGE - Deterioration of the properties of the putting surface is avoided.
