In a lauter tun unit, additional frame lautering surface area is created by subdividing the lauter tun into a plurality of chambers (10, 11, 12, 13) each of which have their own frame lautering surface (15, 16, 17, 18) at least at their outer periphery, which frame lautering surfaces are furnished with corresponding receiving chambers (19, 20, 21, 22) and outlet lines (23, 24, 25, 26). In this manner, to a certain extent internal additional frame lautering surfaces are made available and thus the lautering time is decreased. Without increasing the diameter, with constant charge size, the additional frame lautering surface (15, 16, 17) can be achieved by a stepped arrangement of the chambers (10, 11, 12, 13) rising towards the outside. A still further increase of the frame lautering surface can be achieved by radial separation of the chambers from each other, since then the internal periphery of the chambers can also be utilised for the formation of a further frame lautering surface. In this case, even the first wort can be led off bypassing the spent grains layer on upper frame lautering surfaces directly into a separate outlet chamber without passing through the spent grains layer. <IMAGE>
