PURPOSE: To use the transceiver for two-way transmission on a single optical waveguide with a simple configuration by providing a plurality of switches and mode controllers or the like and outputting a control signal to each switch so as to set the transmission or reception mode. CONSTITUTION: A cathode of a laser diode L is driven by a laser drive LT, coupled with an input of a reception amplifier E via a switch S2 and a base of a transistor(TR) T of the drive LT connects to ground via a switch S1. Then a mode controller S selects the transmission mode or the reception mode. That is, the controller S provides an output of a control signal to the switches S1, S2 to switch them in response to a binary signal representing the transmitting mode or the reception mode thereby selecting the mode. For example, a logical 1 given to an input of the controller S opens the switches S1, S2 to set the transmission mode and a logical 0 given to the input of the controller S closes the switches S1, S2 to set the reception mode. Thus, the transceiver is used for 2-way transmission on the single optical waveguide with a simpler configuration. |
