PURPOSE:To ensure favorable impregnation of reinforcing fibers with a resin and obtain a fiber-reinforced resin sheet free of foams by a method wherein a mixture of a powdery thermoplastic resin and short reinforcing fibers is passed through a heating region in the state of being clamped between a pair of upper and lower loop form belts moved at different velocities, thereby melting the resin, followed by cooling under pressure. CONSTITUTION:A reinforcing fiber 1 is guided by guide rolls 73, into a fluidized bed 2a, where a powdery thermoplastic resin 2 is adhered to the fiber 1. The fiber 1 is then cut by a rotary cutter 72 to a desired length, and the cut pieces of the fiber are dropped to be supplied onto a mount part 20b of a lower loop form belt 20. The belt 20 and a front loop form belt 10 are moved at different velocities, while the belt 20 and a rear loop form belt 30 at substantially equal velocities. The mixture 3 of the resin 2 and the cut fibers 1 is fed while being clamped between the belts 20 and 10, and is supplied to a heating means 40, where the resin 2 is melted to impregnate the fibers 1 therewith. The mixture 3 is fed between the belts 20, 30, the melted mixture 3 is clamped between the rolls 22, 31, and is cooled by a cooling means 7 under pressure to form a fiber-reinforced resin sheet 4 having a predetermined thickness. |
