The invention relates to a device for holding nails, screws and the like. The object of the invention is to provide a device for holding nails with which it is possible to drive in the nail at the desired location without hitting one's fingers or hand in the process. The invention is characterised by a clamp consisting of two limbs which are rotatable about a pivot, the clamping jaws being arranged on one side and the handles on the other side of the pivot and the clamping jaws having semicircular or trapezoidal recesses of different size at mutually opposite points.
