PURPOSE:To reduce an impact force acting to a transmission member to prevent damages of component parts, by elastically supporting a rack movably to a chassis in the direction of an intermeshing pitch line. CONSTITUTION:In a ribbon driver obtaining a ribbon feed driving force through a pinion 14 engaging with a rack 13 by utilizing the movement of a carriage 4, the rack 13 is elastically supported movably to a chassis 20 in the direction of an intermeshing pitch line P, for example, by springs 25, 26. In this manner, even if the movement of the carriage causes the pinion 14 being brought into locked states by a ribbon-lock to come into collision with the teeth of the rack 13, the impact acting on a ribbon feed driving system can be adsorbed for the prevention of the damages of component parts such as gears. Furthermore, if an external force acts to the rack 13 due to the ribbon-lock etc., the provision of microswitches 28, 28 detecting the movement of the rack 13 allows the external force to be detected to enable the automatic action of the stopping of a carriage motor, the generation of alarms, and the like. |
