The acousto-electrical transducer (M) is coupled to a supply line so as to detect noise in the line. The noise signal is converted into electrical form and fed via a variable gain amplifier (VV) and variable bandpass characteristic filter (FF) to an analogue-to-digital converter (AD). A microprocessor (MP) selects noise class memories at intervals according to the digitised noise level signal and increments the selected memories.
