Connections between varnished copper wires (4) and terminals (2) have previously been produced by soft soldering, it being necessary to remove the varnish insulation of the varnished copper wire (4) in advance. The welding of a varnished copper wire (4) to a terminal (2) by means of a barrier-gas welding method in the past led to a joint which was not permanently stable, particularly in the event of a vibrating load. As a result of the use of a sleeve which is fitted over the terminal (2) and the varnished copper wire (4), a weld is produced between the three parts. Contact can be made with the metal sleeve (3), without any problems, by means of a contact rail (1). The varnished copper wire (4) is partially embedded and partially fused within the resulting welded bead (6). Such a connection is electrically conductive and mechanically robust. <IMAGE>
