An ink applying arrangement for a printing machine of the kind wherein a rotatable print cylinder is reciprocated past the printing station, and in which the print cylinder is inked while travelling in one direction of reciprocation from a first applicator roller rotating in a first sense, and while travelling in the opposite direction of reciprocation is linked from a second applicator roller rotating in the opposite sense, comprising: (i) an ink source, (ii) a train of kneading rollers for transferring ink from the source to a divider roller, the divider roller feeding both applicator rollers, and the path between the divider roller and any of the applicator rollers being either direct or via not more than two intermediate rollers (iii) a pair of ink equalising rollers acting directly between the oppositely rotating applicator rollers.
