Antiskid braking for vehicle driven axle - with clutch to block differential action on uneven grip road

The driven axle is retarded by a retarder (2) in the transmission line and has wheel speed monitors on each driven wheel. The difference in wheel speeds is monitored during retarder action and when the difference in wheel speed exceeds a programmed value the differential action of the differential is progressively blocked. A clutch (15) blocks the differential action and is controlled by a processor (13). The driven wheels can thus take upto half the braking force, on the wheel with most grip. If the blocked axles starts to skid, then the processor reduces the retarder action. ADVANTAGE - Improved stability, improved safety.
