Process for preparing a therapeutic agent for rotavirus infection.

Skimmed colostrum or colostrum whey is treated with an ultrafiltration membrane having a fractionation molecular weight of 5 - 15 x 10<4> so as to separate intact physiologically active proteins from the bovine milk. The yield of immunoglobulins contained in the separated proteins is about twice as high as the value achieved by the prior art and their quality is superior. The intact physiologically active proteins obtained by this method contain all immunoglobulins that have high neutralization antibody titres against the seven serotypes of rotavirus. Hence, rotavirus infection can be effectively prevented or treated by administering these proteins to humans or animals in the form of either a pharmaceutical agent or a beverage or food that contain such proteins.
