For prodn. of grain-oriented electrical steel sheet with high magnetic flux density, a Si steel slab contg. 1.5-4.5% Si, as well as Al and N, is hot rolled, with incomplete soln. of Al and N, annealed, cold rolled, decarburisation annealed, and nitrided, prior to initiation of sec. recrystallisation in the finish annealing step, thereby forming ppts. of (Si, Al) N which cause sec. recrystallisation. Pref. N content of the slab is 0.0095% or less and hot rolling is at 1720 deg.C or less. The steel sheet has high magnetic flux density without need for expensive element addns..
