The rotary head drum for a VTR has a magnetic head, an upper rotary drum rotated to a lower fixed drum and a rotatry transformer for receiving and transmitting signals related to the magnetic head. The rotary transformer is a cylindrical type. A stator transformer is fixed at the side of an axis of the lower fixed drum. The inner side of the upper rotary drum is provided with a rotor transformer. A head amplifier for amplifying an output signal from the magnetic head through the rotary transformer, is received in the cavity formed by the upper rotary drum and the lower fixed drum.
