<p>An iodized hydroxyethyl starch of low viscosity having a limiting viscosity number of 0.03-0.13 and an iodine content of 13.5-25.0%. The iodized hydroxyethyl starch is useful as a contrast agent for X-ray examination, especially for opacifying vascular and lymphatic vessels. The hydroxyethyl starch having a high iodine content is readily soluble in water.</p>
