Surface-coating agents for mineral fillers or mineral flame retardants show the problem that the surface tension of the surface coating agent for the mineral additives is not suited to the surface tension of the polymers into which the minerals are to be incorporated. The invention discloses coated mineral fillers and coated mineral flame retardants which consist of 97.0 - 99.9% by weight of mineral filler or flame retardant and 3.0 - 0.1% by weight of coating agent, composed of a mixture of 10 - 90% by weight of a fatty acid salt of the alkaline earth metals and/or of the heavy metals, in particular of zinc, and 90 - 10% by weight of a fatty acid amide.
