ELECTRODE FOR ELECTROLYSIS

An anode for use in electrolysis comprises a conductive substrate of valve metal (alloys) coated with a Pt group metal oxide catalyst layer. The coating comprising 3-45% Ru oxide; 0.1-30% of metallic Pt/Pt oxide optionally mixed with Ir oxide; 50-96.9% Sn oxide. The electrode gives enhanced oxygen overvoltage, reduced oxygen evolution and improved anodic current efficiency.
